Rooney Rule a total success for black coaches in the NFL

When it comes to the Rooney Rule, the end justifies the means.  Since 2003, there have been more minority head coaches than any other period in NFL history.



In 2003 only six percent of the NFL's head coaches were black.  Since then the numbers are up to 22 percent.  Head coaches such as Lovie Smith (above) have benefited from the Rooney Rule.

College Football: Around the Nation- Black Coaches and the BCS

Stanford Head Coach David Shaw became the first black head coach to win a BCS bowl game when he led his team to a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin. A day later Charlie Strong became the second, as he led Louisville to an upset victory over No. 3 Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

UCLA Defines Their Season... And USC's Too!

UCLA's 38-28 victory over USC stamps their season a success, and USC's a failure.

The Record Setting Robert Woods

USC receiver Robert Woods has exceeded the hype after coming out of Gardena Serra High School.


Robert Woods had his way with Colorado's defense, as he set USC's single game record with four receiving touchdowns on the day, and he also set the USC career receptions record.  He finished the game with eight receptions for 132 yards.

UCLA upsets No. 16 Nebraska

Nebraska stood in the way of progress, but that did not stop UCLA from capturing the nation’s attention with a 36-30 upset victory.


With the game tied in the fourth quarter, defensive end Datone Jones (Compton High School) sacked Nebraska’s quarterback in the endzone for a safety, giving UCLA a 29-27 lead.  The play set up UCLA’s 36-30 upset victory.  Photo by Jason Lewis
